Wild Fiction

Gunther stood at the back door tapping his fingers together. A smile flitted across his face and disappeared. ‘Genevieve darling, how are you?’ he air-kissed her on each cheek, his hands dangling in the air.
‘I’m fine, thank you Gunther, how are you?’ Genevieve asked smiling at him. Her earlier confidence had deserted her as she considered the reason she had come here.
‘Just dandy, just dandy, do come in,’ Gunther said with exaggerated gesticulation.
She walked into the living room. Two men were sitting on the sofa next to each other. Her eyes went immediately to Stephen, her personal trainer and lover. She bent down and gave him a kiss. The other man she had never met before.
‘I’m Corp,’ he said extending his hand and smiling yellow cigarette stained teeth at her. His hand was hard and bony and he squeezed hers harder than necessary.
‘This is Genevieve,’ Gunther said bustling in behind her. ‘What can I get you to drink darling? A G&T? Corp’s having a pink one. Or a sneaky? That’s what Stephen’s having.’
‘Just sparkling water will be fine,’ she said as she placed herself in an armchair opposite the men on the sofa.
‘Where are you from,’ Rebecca said to Corp curious to know why he was here.
‘Corp’s just come back from the Caribbean,’ Gunther blurted out.
‘You don’t need to tell everyone,’ Corp said scowling at Gunther. He was tapping his foot nervously on the floor. ‘Just a business trip, nothing too exciting, no time for pleasure, you know what it’s like. What about yourself?’
‘I’ve just come here to see Stephen,’ Genevieve answered.
‘Yes, yes,’ Gunther said handing her a tall glass of mineral water. ‘We’ll leave you two to chat. Come along Corp, let’s go into the kitchen.’
Corp smiled and rose from his seat and laughing mimicked Gunther’s mince into the kitchen closing the door behind him.
