Hog knelt down next to the bag, took the zip in one hand, and pulled it half way down. The bag peeled open to reveal the white naked legs and groin of a man. Genevieve turned away, fell to her knees, and vomited on the ground. Rebecca moved away from the window and put her hand to her mouth. She was breathing fast and shallow. Her head felt light and nausea tugged at her stomach. She faced the wall and put her forehead against its cold surface, holding onto it with her hands. Closing her eyes, she forced her breathing to slow down.
‘Do you have the money woman?’ Rebecca could hear Hog’s voice. There was a short silence and then a dull thud.
‘You idiot,’ it was Corp’s voice. ‘That could have killed her. Here it is, this is all we need, you’re such a bloody moron.’
Rebecca ran down the corridor, sliding on its smooth surface as she reached the outside door. She looked around the car park for a better hiding place before diving back into the boot of the Jaguar. She heard running footsteps and a door open.
‘Corp, look at that car. The keys are probably in her bag, let’s take it mate,’ it was Hog’s voice. The nausea intensified in Rebecca’s stomach and she stuck her fist in her mouth and held her breath.
‘Another stupid fucking suggestion like that and I’ll put this fucking knife straight through your fucking left eyeball,’ Corp said.
The doors on the BMW slammed and the wheels squealed as it sped off. Rebecca let go of her breath. She could feel her heart thumping in her chest, banging against her ribcage as if trying to free itself. She let the boot swing open and jumped out. The smell of the burning rubber from the BMW’s tyres filled her mouth and nose. She grabbed hold of the side of the car and bent over. Her stomach contracted into a tight ball and she vomited. After the vomiting had turned to retching, she brought it under control. She leant against the car and wiped the sweat and clinging hairs from her forehead.
Rebecca found Genevieve exactly were she had seen her collapse. Her face was lying in a pool of her own vomit and there was a trickle of blood running from a lump on her forehead across her face. She was motionless. Rebecca knelt down next to her, placed her fingers on Genevieve’s wrist, and found a pulse.
