Wild Fiction

Ogilvie returned with two uniformed men. ‘These are the drivers of two of the Armed Response Vehicles we’ll be travelling in. We call them ARV’s for short. Each vehicle has a driver, operator, and observer. Your jobs will be to sit in the back with the observer and answer any of his questions about the location of the places you mentioned to me earlier. All the officers will be carrying Glock 17s and be wearing bulletproof vests, as you will be. Each of you will be in a separate car. Are you ready for this?’ he asked looking at each of them in turn.
They nodded at him and then shook hands with the uniformed men.
They were joined by other ARV’s en route to the Fullroy Estate. Conrad gave directions and managed to find the road that took them to the clearing where they had seen the exchange between Grovijohn and Corp and Hog.
Ogilvie had a radio in his hand and when his jacket swung open, Conrad saw that he was now wearing a shoulder holster with a Glock 17 tucked under his arm. There were a number of uniformed men taking up positions around the clearing. Some of them had Heckler and Koch MP5 carbines in their hands.
Conrad and Genevieve led them down the path to the cache. Conrad pointed to the dead branches that were covering the door. Ogilvie barked out orders to the men who deployed in the area. Two of the men removed the branches and opened the door.
‘Stand next to that man over there,’ Ogilvie said to Genevieve and Conrad pointing at a clean shaven young officer with a pair of binoculars around his neck.
The two men who had removed the branches opened the door and disappeared inside. Ogilvie’s radio crackled a couple of times before the men reappeared.
‘It’s all there captain,’ one of them said.
‘Okay, cover it up exactly as it was. We’re going to set this up as a sting. Come with me,’ Ogilvie said waving to Genevieve and Conrad. He took them back to the clearing and put them back in the car. ‘Remember, not a word to anyone. This officer is going to take you back.’

Chapter 49

The ARV that took Conrad and Genevieve back from the estate dropped them off at the corner store at bottom of the lane from the author’s house. Conrad wanted Clorets®, to remove a sleeping camel from his throat, as he put it.
On their return to the author’s house Conrad and Genevieve filled the others in on what had happened.
‘So it’s all over then,’ the author said. ‘The police have set up traps and will catch these blokes and the next we’ll know about it is when it hits the papers.’
