Wild Fiction

In one fluid movement, Retir let go of her elbow and moved behind her securing his arm around her neck. A small gun appeared in his hand, the barrel pointing directly at her temple.
‘Show me your hands,’ Retir shouted. ‘Put them where I can see them.’
James slowly raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders. ‘Let her go,’ he repeated. ‘She can’t help you. She doesn’t have the bonds.’
Retir took the gun from Rebecca’s head and pointed it at James. ‘Where are the bonds? I’m going to count to three and don’t dick around with me.’
At that moment, Rebecca sunk her teeth into Retir’s arm and he let out a scream. She slammed her fist backwards and into his groin and felt him collapse but not before a deafening explosion next to her ear told her that Retir had fired a shot. She collapsed to the floor under Retir’s weight. Kicking and clawing, she forced herself free. He lay doubled over on his side, his hands holding his groin and his eyes screwed tightly shut. The gun lay free on the floor. Rebecca picked it up as she scrambled to her feet. She held it in two shaking hands and pointed it at Retir’s head.
A gurgling sound behind her made her turn her head and look at James. He was lying on his back with his blood soaked hands around his neck. There was a hole in his neck below his jaw. Blood pumped out, over his fingers, gushing onto the floor.
‘James, James,’ she shouted running over to him and kneeling next to his head. She put her hands over his neck but the blood continued to pump out and soaked her fingers and her hands. James opened and closed his mouth but no sound came out. He looked directly at her and then his eyes rolled back and gazed at the ceiling, unmoving.
‘Please don’t die,’ Rebecca wailed picking up his head and holding it in her hands. The next thing she felt was a searing pain against her rib cage and she flew through the air and hit the wall. She looked up, struggling to breathe and saw Retir walking towards her. He had the gun in his hand again and was pointing it directly at her.
‘You bitch,’ he said. ‘I warned you, you stupid bitch.’
A shot rang out from outside. Another one and then half a dozen shots were fired in rapid succession. Like a string of powerful firecrackers. Retir ran to the window and then ran back.
‘I’ll get you bitch,’ he said to Rebecca pointing the gun directly at her head. ‘Death is too good for you. I’m coming back for you.’
Rebecca cowered back against the wall, holding her chest and sucking in short rapid breaths. Retir ran out of the far door that James had come through.
