Rebecca took a deep breath and faced away from him. She could see him watching her in the reflection of the mirror. She stripped without emotion and climbed under the sheet next to him and closed her eyes. She could feel his podgy little hands feeling her and exploring her body. Then his garlic tasting mouth was on hers, forcing his tongue into her mouth. He grunted as he pushed himself on top of her. Rebecca pulled her mouth away from his and opened her eyes.
‘Are you wearing a condom?’ she asked.
He stopped moving and stared back at her. His expression blank.
‘No,’ he said. ‘Do you have one?’ he asked after a moment.
‘No,’ Rebecca said pushing him hard and rolling him off to the side. ‘No I bloody don’t and don’t for a bloody moment think that you’re going to enter me without a condom on.’
She threw back the sheet and jumped out of bed and pulled on her clothes.
‘Rebecca,’ Kent said getting off the bed and walking up to her. He stroked her arm and tried to fondle her breast through her tank top but she pushed his hand away. ‘We had a deal,’ he said. His voice was starting to slur.
‘And you think that deal included unprotected sex?’ she snapped back at him.
‘Well...not exactly...but I forgot to bring...’
‘Well don’t forget next time,’ Rebecca said slinging her bag over her shoulder and opening the door. ‘That’s if there is a next time. I want to see this deal honoured before anything else happens,’ she pulled out the signed contract and waved it at him. ‘Do I make myself clear?’ her eyes glistened and the papers trembled in her hand.
Martin Kent nodded back at her, naked and now detumescent. Rebecca slammed the door behind her.
Chapter 70
It was exactly 8:12pm when Rebecca got back to the hospital. Visiting hour had been over for twelve minutes. Rebecca slipped past reception and made her way to Genevieve’s room. She pressed the handle down and opened the door quietly. Inside her room was a freshly made bed but no one was in it. She opened the door wider and looked around. The bathroom door stood open. Then she noticed the flowers she had brought. They were in a vase standing on the windowsill, the rigid petals bursting with colour.
