Chapter 26
The warm sun on her face woke Rebecca. She opened her eyes lazily and stared up into the trees. Beams of light were filtering through the leaves reflecting green and gold. A flock of blue and yellow macaws were spread out in the trees. They crab walked up and down the branches and looked down at her. Her head was lying so close to Conrad’s that when she breathed she could see his hair move. She pushed herself up on one elbow and looked around. James had rolled over several times and was now sleeping under a low branch several yards away. Out of the corner of her eye she caught a movement in the undergrowth and froze. She focused her eyes on the spot where the movement had been but there was nothing there now, except a quilt of shadows and lights and colours. Then it moved again and this time she saw what it was: a large iguana, bright green with a red head and a ridge of spines tracking down its back and onto its tail. Its pink tongue darted in and out as it shuffled across the sand and leaves and scuttled up a tree, all the time watching her with its beady eyes. One of the macaws moved over to where another was perching and rubbed its head up and down against the neck of its partner and nuzzled its feathers. Rebecca stroked her free hand along Conrad’s back. She examined the scratches on his skin, gave each one a kiss, and worked her way up until she was kissing the nape of his neck and then nibbling at his ear. He stirred and she put her arm over him and caressed the hairs on his chest and ran her silk tipped fingers down to his stomach and groin, lightly tickling him. He rolled onto his back, put his arm around her, and pulled her head down to his engaging her lips. She felt a tingle of excitement quiver through her body and flutter in her hips and thighs. One of the parrots let out a squawk above them as she pulled herself on top of him and sunk her fingers into his thick hair, trying to hold his head in place while she kissed him. She could feel his hands slip under her vest and slide smoothly around her back before pulling her top over her head. She pushed herself up, his hands cupped her breasts, and exploring fingers tugged gently at her erect nipples and rolled them around. He moved his head down and took her left nipple in his mouth and played with it with his tongue and she felt the warm glow in her groin intensify. His hands were pulling at her bikini bottoms and she wriggled her hips and legs and let him push them as far as he could. His foot came up, hooked them with his big toe, and slid them the rest of the way off. The macaws called out in encouragement as he slipped his hand between her legs. She felt her thighs tremble, uncontrollable, unstoppable. She felt him wriggling under her and she lifted up her hips so he could slide his shorts off. When she lowered herself again, she could feel his excitement as hard as blue steel between her legs and his hands returned to guide it in. She shivered as she felt him enter her and gripped his hair even tighter as they drove their hips together. With each movement, a small cry of pleasure left her mouth. The squawking of the parrots in the trees above them became louder and louder. Finally it became too much and she realised that she had reached the end of the road and let out an involuntary scream. The macaws screeched and lifted out of the trees in a cacophony of squawks and flashes of blue and yellow and red and bursting rays of sunshine. Their flapping wings beating against the branches as they took off. The trees shook around them as twigs cracked and leaves exploded. Waves crashed on the beach as her body shuddered in orgasm. Gradually the voices of the macaws disappeared into the jungle and the waves returned to their gentle lapping. Rebecca lay still, breathing heavily, her head on Conrad’s chest while leaves fluttered down like snowflakes and settled on her naked back.
Conrad fell asleep again and Rebecca crept out from their jungle hideout and went down to the beach for a swim. Just before she emerged from the bush, thinking she could hear voices, she crouched down. Peering through the trees and onto the beach she could see nothing but the gentle waves lapping at the powder white sands. Then, over the waves, she noticed where the voices were coming from. There were three fishing dhows about a hundred yards out to sea, with men lowering nets from them.
She rushed back to Conrad: ‘Wake up, there are people in the sea. Get dressed,’ she whispered. She woke James and they went to the edge of the jungle, where it met the beach, and stared from their protected shelter. They watched the fishermen lay their nets and steer their boats along the shore.
